Two Year Letter

Dear Foster,

Wow, what a year. Hard to believe that 12 short months ago you were toddling back and forth between your daddy and me, only able to take a few steps, and now you run and bound and climb with amazing balance.

You are such a joyful kid. You pay close attention to the feelings of others, look forward to playing with friends, and absolutely love your family and kitties. You are also probably the cleanest little boy I've ever met. So much so that you get pretty upset if you get anything on your hands or if food falls on the floor. Even if it's another kid's fault you'll get pretty worked up and make sure that everyone knows that there is a mess on the floor, 'oh noooooo'. This means that 90% of the time I'm thrilled that I'm not constantly having to wipe you down or clean up after you and 10% of the time I wish you'd just lick the crumbs off your fingers and be done with it.

You transition into things so well. For Halloween you were a fireman and I thought maybe you'd enjoy walking to a few houses and call it quits but you insisted on keeping up with the other kids and ran around all night. You moved from eating in a highchair to eating in a 'real' chair with ease. You totally roll with the flow of whatever else is happening. Most recently you've moved out of your crib and into a toddler bed with little to no fuss! I really hope the transition from only child to big brother goes just as smoothly.

You've tried out a few tantrums here and there but nothing really to speak of yet...I'm really, really hoping that you keep it that way but I'm not going to hold my breath. Things that tend to upset you include if the kitties don't want to cuddle with you, if anything spills (particularly milk), or if you really want momma and you get daddy instead.

You've really started talking up a storm lately. You like to describe cars and trucks of all types (particularly trucks), will list off the body parts someone has upon meeting them, and will comment on anything or anyone that is 'right there'. You like to 'drive' daddy's car or use your yellow steering wheel to drive mine when we are on the way to work in the morning.

You are a real mover. You LOVE to run with daddy. You'll climb and balance on things that most kids older than you won't go near. You will 'workout' with daddy too and imitate his burpies and push-ups and high jumps. It's pretty much one of the cutest things ever when the two of you are playing together.

You've been to Double Island, the coast, Whistler, Hawaii and on a few road trips this year. Camping and hiking and lots of outdoor fun. I'm looking forward to more of the same this year when your little brother joins us. It's so strange for me to think of having another little boy when you fill my heart so much. The one thing that he will give us that we haven't had with you is the ability to see you be a big brother. We look forward to that just as much as anything else that comes with a new baby.

So much love,

Momma
